Prix d'Arenberg
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Prix d'Arenberg is a Group 3 flat horse race in France for two-year-old thoroughbreds. It is run over a distance of 1,100 metres (approximately 5½ furlongs) in September, currently at Chantilly Racecourse.
It was first run in 1911 at Longchamp as the Prix des Coteaux, changing to the present name in 1925, in memory of Auguste d'Arenberg, a leading figure in French racing who died the previous year.
The race has been run at several different venues, with the first spell at Chantilly beginning in 1975. This was followed by a return to Longchamp (1983-93), and brief stays at Maisons-Laffitte (1994, 2002, 2003), Chantilly (1995, 1997-01) and Evry (1996). The present period at Chantilly began in 2004. Prior to 1994 the distance of the race had been set at 1,000 metres since 1921.
