Prix Niel

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Prix Niel is a Group 2 flat horse race in France for three-year-old thoroughbreds (excluding geldings). It is run over a distance of 2,400 metres (approximately 1 mile 4 furlongs) at Longchamp Racecourse in September.

It was formerly known as the Prix de Chantilly, and was re-named in 1972 in memory of Comte Gaston Niel, a leading figure in French racing who died two years earlier.

The race is a trial for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, and takes place three weeks beforehand, at the same meeting as the Prix Foy and the Prix Vermeille.
