Prix Maurice de Nieuil

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Prix Maurice de Nieuil is a Group 2 flat horse race in France for four-year-old and above thoroughbreds. It is run over a distance of 2,800 metres (approximately 1 mile 6 furlongs) at Longchamp Racecourse in July.

It was first run in 1920 at Saint-Cloud as the Prix des Maréchaux, which was re-named the Prix de Strasbourg in 1947. It was given its present name in 1949, in memory of Maurice de Nieuil, a prominent figure in French racing who died earlier that year.

The race was run at Maisons-Laffitte from 1990 to 2005, moving to its present venue in 2006. Prior to 2001 the distance was 2,500 metres (1 mile 4½ furlongs), and three-year-olds were eligible to run.
