Prix Jean Prat
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Prix Jean Prat is a Group 1 flat horse race in France for three-year-old thoroughbred colts and fillies. It is run over a distance of 1,600 metres (approximately 1 mile) at Chantilly Racecourse in early July.
It was first run in 1858 as one of a pair of races called the Prix Biennal (one for three-year-olds and one for four-year-olds and upwards), which were both re-named in 1940 in memory of Jean Prat, a leading French racehorse owner who died earlier that year. To avoid confusion, the Prix Jean Prat for older horses was re-named in 1985 as the Prix Vicomtesse Vigier.
From 1986 to 1994 the race was run at Longchamp Racecourse. Prior to 2005 the race distance was 1,800 metres (1 mile 1 furlong) and the race took place in early June.
