Prix Eclipse

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Prix Eclipse is a Group 3 flat horse race in France for two-year-old thoroughbreds. It is run over a distance of 1,200 metres (approximately 6 furlongs) in late September or early October, currently at Chantilly Racecourse.

It was first run in 1891 at Maisons-Laffitte and is named in honour of the 18th century British racehorse Eclipse.

After World War II the race moved from its original venue to Saint-Cloud, where it remained until 1993. Since then it has been run at four different racecourses: Deauville (1994-1996), Saint-Cloud (1997-2000), Maisons-Laffitte (2001-2003, and 2005), and Chantilly (2004 and 2006-2007). The distance of the race has varied throughout its history, changing most recently in 2001, before which it had been run at 1,300 metres since 1966.
