Prix Chloe
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Prix Chloé is a Group 3 flat horse race in France for three-year-old thoroughbred fillies. It is run over a distance of 1,800 metres (approximately 1 mile 1 furlong) in late June or early July, currently at Maisons-Laffitte Racecourse.
It was first run in 1921 at Tremblay, together with an equivalent race for colts and geldings, the Prix Daphnis. The two races were named after the characters Daphnis and Chloe, from a work by the Greek novelist Longus.
The Prix Chloé remained at Tremblay until the closure of the racecourse in 1967. The race was then run at Longchamp (1968-72), before moving to Evry until that course also closed in 1996. Since then the venue has changed regularly. The first run at Maisons-Laffitte was in 1997, moving to Chantilly (1998-02 and 2004-05) and Longchamp (2003), before returning to Maisons-Laffitte in 2006.
Originally set at 1,600m, the race has been run at its present distance since 1961, with the exception of one race at 1,600m in 1993.
