Prix Chaudenay
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Prix Chaudenay is a Group 2 flat horse race in France for three-year-old thoroughbreds. It is run over a distance of 3,000 metres (approximately 1 mile 7 furlongs) at Longchamp Racecourse on the weekend of the first Sunday in October.
It was first run in 1875 as the Prix de l'Espérance, and was re-named in 1990 as the Prix Hubert de Chaudenay in memory of Hubert de Chaudenay, a prominent figure in French racing who died the previous year. Hubert's father Jean de Chaudenay had also been commemorated in such a way, so when the Prix Jean de Chaudenay was discontinued in 2004, the title of this race was shortened to honour both members of the family.
In 1997 and 1998 the race took place at Maisons-Laffitte, and when it returned to Longchamp it was moved to the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe meeting, having previously been staged in late June or early July.
