"Private Life" is the second single from Grace Jones' album Warm Leatherette. The song is a cover, written by Chrissie Hynde, and originally performed by her group, the Pretenders. According to rumours, Hynde looks at Grace's version as far superior compare to her own. Having heard both, one is likely to fully agree with her.
The single's B-side is a non-album song; "She's lost control". Both single versions has yet to be released on CD. In The Netherlands the B-side was "Pars".
[edit] Video
The original video for this song is a real treat. Here we saw the Grace Jones mask for the first time. The entire video show Grace's face in close-up, her taking the mask off and on and off again, and is completely without any cuts. (see it on Youtube; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thtQngqG4vg&feature=related)
The song is also included (in a very heavily edited form) in her A One Man Show video. This video has nothing to do with the original one.
[edit] Remix version
The single was re-released in 1986 in remix form (Island Records IS 273.).
The B-side were "My Jamaican Guy" (with "Feel Up" and "She's lost control" added on the 12" version).
[edit] Chart
The song was Grace Jones first hit in the UK, peaking at #17 in 1980.
