Prince Moritz of Saxe-Altenburg

Moritz Franz Friedrich Constantin Alexander Heinrich August Carl Albrecht of Saxe-Altenburg (b. Eisenberg, 24 October 1829 - d. Arco, Italy, 13 May 1907), was a German prince of the ducal house of Saxe-Altenburg.

He was the third but second surviving son of Georg, Duke of Saxe-Altenburg and Marie of Mecklenburg-Schwerin.

In Meiningen on 15 October 1862 Moritz married with Augusta of Saxe-Meiningen, daughter of Bernhard II, Duke of Saxe-Meiningen. They had five children:

  1. Marie Anne (b. Altenburg, 14 March 1864 - d. Bückeburg, 3 May 1918), married on 16 April 1882 to Georg of Schaumburg-Lippe.
  2. Elisabeth Augusta Marie Agnes [upon her marriage, she took the name Elizaveta Mavrikievna in a Russian Orthodox baptism] (b. Meiningen, 25 January 1865 - d. Leipzig, 24 March 1927), married on 27 April 1884 to Grand Duke Konstantin Konstantinovich of Russia.
  3. Margarethe Marie Agnes Adelaide Karoline Fredericka (b. Altenburg, 22 May 1867 - d. Altenburg, 17 June 1882).
  4. Ernst II, Duke of Saxe-Altenburg (b. Altenburg, 31 August 1871 - d. Schloß Fröhliche Wiederkunft, 22 March 1955).
  5. Luise Charlotte Marie Agnes (b. Altenburg, 11 August 1873 - d. Altenburg, 14 April 1953), married on 6 February 1895 to Eduard, Duke of Anhalt; they divorced in 1918, shortly before he died.
