The Andorran First Division (Primera Divisió d'Andorra) is the top football league for the country of Andorra. The league is a part-time league: all the clubs are part-time and most players are part-time.
The league was launched in 1995 sponsored by the local federation (Andorran Football Federation) which was created just one year before, in 1994.
All the teams in the league play in the same stadium, Estadi Comunal de Aixovall. The same occurs in all other Andorran competitions, such as Copa Constitució and Supercopa.
FC Andorra, the most important club in the country and based in Andorra la Vella never played in this league. They play under the Spanish league system, because they are registered in the Real Federación Española de Fútbol, but the team is mostly composed of players with Andorran nationality.
[edit] League System
The eight clubs that play in the league play in a home/away system (although they always play in the same venue). After the first 14 rounds, the best four teams play a competition between them to decide the Andorran champion (play off per al títol), while the other four play to avoid relegation (play off pel descens).
The winners win a place in the UEFA Champions League, but due to Andorra's low ranking they must enter at the first qualifying stage. Runners-up qualify for a place in the first round of the UEFA Intertoto Cup.
