The Prime Minister of East Timor is the head of government in East Timor. The President is the head of state. The Prime Minister is chosen by the political party or alliance of political parties with a majority in the national legislature and is formally appointed by the president. The Prime Minister oversees the activities of the government and chairs the Council of Ministers.
