Priceville, Ontario

village in Grey County, Ontario, Canada. Priceville is located on Grey Road 4, east of Durham and southwest of Flesherton.
Priceville is aPriceville contains a park funded by the Priceville Improvement Committee. The town is also known locally for its large Canada Day celebration followed by a fireworks display.
Priceville was originally a settlement founded by African-Americans who fled slavery in the United States in the mid-to-late 19th century. An extension of the underground railroad ended between Priceville and the town of Durham, Ontario.[1] There is some controversy regarding the later resettlement of the community by European immigrants, who purportedly permanently displaced the original African-American settlers.[2] Alternatively, it is also purported that the current residents of Priceville may have some distant African-American ancestry due to interracial marriages between European settlers and former African-American slaves who settled in the village.[3] The area surrounding the community contains heritage plaques denoting the region's historical significance.
