[edit] Fair Use Rationale for Private
The basis for this fair use claim is that low-resolution is typically considered fair use. This resolution is also unuseable for print reproduction, and many books/series on Wikipedia have used this basis as well, as the use of a cover "to illustrate an article discussing the book in question" is allowed.
- This is a low-resolution image of a lesser quality than the original, which will not affect any ability to market or profit from the novel
- This is the most logical image for Private
- The image is being used to illustrate the related article, Private
- The publisher has allowed many other copies of this image to be displayed elsewhere on the Internet, making its appearance here no more or less significant or visible than elsewhere
- The image is slightly cropped and of low resolution; it could not be used to sell unauthorized copies of the novel
[edit] Licensing
This image is of a book cover, and the copyright for it is most likely owned either by the artist who created the cover or the publisher of the book. It is believed that the use of low-resolution images of book covers
qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Other use of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, might be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Non-free content for more information. |
