Kariong Juvenile Detention Centre.
Location: Kariong NSW
Kariong JDC is a maximum security facility for juvenile offenders. Unlike other facilities, which are run by the Department of Juvenile Justice it is managed by the NSW Corrective Services. The juveniles wear the same uniforms as are worn in the adult gaols and are treated in a similar fashion to adult prisoners.
The facility is used to house juveniles who have been convicted of escaping custody and also those on remand (or sentence) for serious offences such as murder and sexual assault. It has been criticised that there are currently inmates who are up to 25 years of age currently housed in Kariong, having been sentenced as juveniles. —Preceding unsigned comment added by SatuSuro (talk • contribs) 00:10, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
