[edit] May 2008

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing in accordance with Wikipedia's blocking policy for abusing multiple accounts. If you believe this block is unjustified you may contest this block by adding the text {{unblock|your reason here}} below. jonny-mt 16:40, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

huh wut?

Hi Pretmaybe,
Let me see if I can explain. Essentially, you somehow stumbled into an edit dispute at Nigeria, during which you readded information that had been added multiple times by William Ortiz (talk ยท contribs) ([1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6]). In addition, despite the fact that your account was registered on August 27, 2007, you made your first edit at 15:49 UTC on May 27, 2008--three minutes after William made his last edit for the night. Your readdition of the content came at 15:57; eight minutes after your first edit and eleven minutes after William's last.
Based on these observations, I concluded that there was sufficient evidence to block your as a sock puppet--that is, an alternate account of a user (in this case William) used to make it appear like more than one individual is supporting a given idea in a dispute, get around existing blocks, circumvent Wikipedia's three-revert rule, etc. However, seeing that your account had never been used until today raised the concern that you were a sleeper sock, or a sock puppet created days or months before its use for the purposes of circumventing the autoconfirm procedure, which prohibits new users from editing certain pages, uploading files, or moving new pages. As such, I filed a request for checkuser, assuming that it would confirm my suspicion and reveal a number of other, similar accounts that could then be blocked before they had a chance to be used.
However, the results of the checkuser not only showed that there are no such accounts--they showed that you and William are not related. As such, it appears that you are not a sock puppet after all, and for this I sincerely apologize.
Based on these checkuser results, I have unblocked you, noting the reason in the block log. However, I would greatly appreciate it if you would answer a couple of questions in the hopes of clearing this all up:
  1. What made you decide to start editing when you did?
  2. What brought you to the Nigeria article?
  3. Why did you reinstate the deleted information?
Naturally, you are under no obligation to answer these questions, but any answers you could provide would be greatly helpful going forward.
I apologize once more for the block. Thank you for your time. --jonny-mt 04:34, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
