[edit] Presidental Elections Committee
I edited the article President of Singapore to add a section on the Presidential Elections Committee not in order to remove the qualification but to make it clear who decides who can run for president. The article needs to make this much clearer. However, I leave the wording of that section to you. --Ghormax 14:46, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, I see. Well, although there's already a separate article on the Presidential Elections Committee, I suppose it would be a good idea to have some more detailed mention about the Committee in the 'President of Singapore' article. Perhaps you could start off the new sub-section by working on a summary of the 'Presidential Elections Committee' article? Cheers, Jacklee 21:48, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Merger proposal
I propose that the stub article "Presidential Elections Committee" be merged into this article. The present article is already quite substantial, and I feel there's no reason to have a short, separate article on the Presidential Elections Committee when the Committee's sole purpose is to approve candidates for the Presidency. "Presidential Elections Committee" can be changed into a redirect page pointing to the present article. Views? Cheers, Jacklee 05:54, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
There was no response after ten days, so I went ahead and merged "Presidental Elections Committee" into this article. Cheers, Jacklee 01:26, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Infobox
Hi, an anonymous editor recently added an infobox for this article about the President of Singapore. I removed it because I felt that it's unnecessary – this is the only article that the infobox can possibly appear in. More importantly, it disrupts the layout of the article since it displaces the {{Politics of Singapore}}, thus creating masses of white space. Also, the formatting of the infobox needs cleaning up. Views, anyone? Cheers, Jacklee 13:03, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Candidates
This article needs to explain much more about what the criteria for being president is and why the other candidates were disqualified. What did the election committee say was the reason? We just seem to be saying that it's rigged - we must be able to do better than that. Secretlondon 21:03, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
- I agree. The other candidates were disqualified for not having satisfied the criteria set out in the Constitution of the Republic of Singapore (1999 Reprint) for standing as candidates in the Presidential elections. I don't know, though, whether the Presidential Elections Committee issued a report setting out the reasons why they were disqualified. Will have to do a bit of hunting around for the information when I have time. — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 21:56, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
We need to pull out of the constitution what the criteria are. Secretlondon 09:24, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
- The criteria are already stated in the article in the section "Qualifications". What is not known at the moment is which criteria the would-be Presidential nominees failed to satisfy. — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 17:20, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Nathan's portrait
Perhaps a portrait/photo of the current president should be added? ĞavinŤing 15:22, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
- Realized there was a Wikimedia Commons image of President S.R. Nathan available, so your wish is granted. — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 23:06, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Ong.jpg
Image:Ong.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Portraits of Presidents
I think there is an urgent need for official portraits/photos of Ong Teng Cheong, Wee Kim Wee, and S.R. Nathan. The articles on Mr. Ong and Mr. Wee doesn't even have the Presidents' photos. I tried searching on Commons but to no avail too. Photos are important as they will provide a better read generally. Bonchygeez (talk) 17:25, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
- It will be nigh impossible to obtain free photographs of Wee Kim Wee and Ong Teng Cheong, as they have passed away. For this reason, it may be possible to justify the use of small, low-resolution official photographs from the Istana website under the non-free content criteria. Have a look at the image description pages of the portraits of Yusof bin Ishak, Benjamin Sheares and Devan Nair. As S.R. Nathan is alive and well, I don't think any use of his official portrait can be justified as fair use. In any case, there are existing free photographs of him available in the Commons, one of which is already in use in this article. — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 18:33, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Removal of graph from article
I removed the following graph from the article, as it did not appear to be serving much purpose and was messing around with an adjacent table. — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 16:50, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
