In addition to animal models, PPI has also been explored in humans, supporting the validity of these procedures in studying schizophrenia (for review, see Braff et al. 2002).

[edit] What is necessary to improve this article
- More information on PPI disruption in numerous diseases;
- An outline of brain circuitry underlying the startle response and its inhibition and computer models of such circuits;
- More images: screenshots of registering software, printouts, photos of people tested, mice tested, other species tested;
- Examples of startle sounds also could be added;
- Would be great if the article was reviewed by a specialist of the field, for example, Neal Swerdlow;
- Table of influence of different chemical compounds on PPI in different species, with different reactions across species highlighted;
