[edit] Services

The park and ride system is split into two high frequency routes.

Route Destinations Times of operation Main frequency
Route 1 Portway - Preston South Circular 7am - 7pm 7-8 mins
Route 2 Walton-le-Dale - Preston North Circular 7am - 7pm 6-8 mins

[edit] Fleet

The park and ride services are run using Optare Solo buses. The network livery consists of a dark pink body, with a dark blue base and a light blue 'swish' at the back. Preston Bus is the first operator of Optare Solo SR buses, as eight have been acquired for the Park & Ride routes,[1] five of which entered service in May 2008. The new buses are in a different livery, blue with a white 'swish' at the back separated by magenta strips.[2]

The buses used range in length, with the new buses being slightly longer. The buses are small enough to manoeuvre round the tight curves and bends in the street layout of Preston, while at the same time having space for many sitting and standing passengers, and one disabled or pushchair space. On some peak hours, standard Preston Bus Solos come to re-enforce the service to provide extra capacity.

[edit] Ticketing

The two car parks at Portway, (in the Riversway Docklands area) and the one at Walton-le-Dale, are all free, with users paying for the bus journey. A number of fare options are available.

  • Day return: Before 09:30 Mon - Fri £2.50, other times £1.20
  • Child return: 60p
  • Family ticket: Before 09:30 Mon - Fri £5, other times £3
  • Saverstrip: £22.50

The Saverstrip ticket offers ten journeys for the price of nine, and is available only from the on-site kiosk.

[edit] Attractions

To cater for tourists and shoppers visiting Preston, the service stops at many attractions and precincts, including:

Ticket offers and deals are also available for people if they travel on the service, valid in shops and restaurants.
