Preston Township is a township in Wayne County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,107 at the 2000 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 51.5 square miles (133.3 km²), of which, 49.5 square miles (128.3 km²) of it is land and 1.9 square miles (5.0 km²) of it (3.77%) is water.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 1,107 people, 455 households, and 323 families residing in the township. The population density was 22.3 people per square mile (8.6/km²). There were 1,089 housing units at an average density of 22.0/sq mi (8.5/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 98.83% White, 0.27% Native American, 0.54% Asian, 0.09% from other races, and 0.27% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.45% of the population.

There were 455 households out of which 26.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.3% were married couples living together, 6.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.8% were non-families. 24.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 2.89.

In the township the population was spread out with 22.5% under the age of 18, 5.8% from 18 to 24, 24.7% from 25 to 44, 29.3% from 45 to 64, and 17.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 99.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.6 males.

The median income for a household in the township was $35,724, and the median income for a family was $43,162. Males had a median income of $27,000 versus $17,368 for females. The per capita income for the township was $19,106. About 5.8% of families and 9.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 10.0% of those under age 18 and 4.5% of those age 65 or over.
