Preston Lodge High School is a six-year non-denominational school located in the town of Prestonpans. It serves students from Prestonpans, Port Seton, Longniddry and the surrounding areas. The school has recently undergone a major new building/refurbishment project under PPP.
The school has four associated cluster primary schools, which all students attending these schools are entitled to a place at Preston Lodge. These are Cockenzie Primary School, Longniddry Primary School, Prestonpans Primary School and St. Gabriels Primary School. The partner primary schools are of varying size and denomination. Staff currently number at around 110, pupils at around 1000.
Students in S1 and S2 learn:
Art & Design, Computing, Craft & Design, English, French, Geography, Home Economics, History, Geography, Maths, Modern Studies, Music, Religious and Moral Education, Physical Education, Social Education and Science.
Students in S3 and S4 choose 8 of these subjects to study in further detail, either at Standard Grade, Intermediate or Access 3 level. Senior students in S5 and S6 study 5 subjects at either Intermediate or Higher level, with the further option of studying at Advanced Higher level S6.
It should be noted that some subjects (such as Science) fork into different specialised areas after second year (in the case of Science, the three options are Physics, Chemistry and Biology) to conform with the courses set out by the SQA.
