Preston Lake, Ontario
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Preston Lake is a community located in the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville, Ontario, Canada. The population of this residential neighbourhood is approximately 700. The community was first established in the 1930's by George Preston.
Preston Lake is a natural glacier kettle lake that contains various fish species and wildlife. It is used for swimming, fishing, boating (no gas powered motors allowed) and sailing. The clear, clean water is a testimony to the residents who help preserve and protect this beautiful private lake (Pride and Preston Lake Community Association).
Preston Lake formerly had a public beach in the 1970s. However, it was replaced by development of a cul-de-sac subdivision on the west shore which now contains estate homes valued at over 1 million dollars. No further major development is planned as the lake is situated within the Oak Ridges Moraine.
The area has established itself as one of the premiere communities within the Greater Toronto Area based on it's proximity to highways, stores, schools and golf courses while remaining to be surrounded by it's natural beauty. Access to Highway 404 is one minute away and approximately 25 minutes to downtown Toronto. The recent addition of a Wal-Mart super store and retail mall containing numerous popular shops is within a 5 minute drive.
