Robert James Bennett was a character in the book Clear and Present Danger and the film of the same name. He was President of the United States of America. Before becoming President Bennett was Governor of Alabama, Bennett was a close friend of a man who was killed by members of a drug cartel. Bennett was very angry about this. He ordered a new policy against the Colombian Drug Cartel and attempted to rid America of drugs. He was able to secure some money from freezing the drug cartel's assets. Bennett sent Jack Ryan and the FBI Director Emile Jacobs to Colombia to negotiate with the Colombian Attorney General about who would get what share of the money. The Drug Cartel's assassinated Jacobs and several other security officers. He gave NSA James Cutter authorization to take out the Cartels. There was a lot of carnage in the crisis. Bennett attempted to silence Ryan but he testified at a special session of Congress. The film ended here, but in the novel Bennett threw his re-election campaign.
According to the book, his Secret Service codename was FARMER.
