The President's College came into being on the 4th of February 1978. The inauguration of this school was the first official act carried out by His Excellency the President J. R. Jayawardene after assuming duties as the first Executive President of Sri Lanka. The location for this school was at Torrington Place. Presidents College was shifted from Torrington Place to the present premises at Sri Jayawardenepura on 21st June, 1983. In the year 1993 the school became a National School.

This school has produce many valuable human resources for the Sri Lankan Development. This has covered Education, Sports and etc. etc..
[edit] BEGINNING OF EDUCATION
Started with only two grades; Lower Kindergarten and Year 1. The first tutorial staff consisted of 4 teachers and there were 351 students.

The first sports meet was held under the distinguished patronage of Madam Hema Premadasa on the 5th of June 1980
[edit] FIRST BATCH OF O/L STUDENTS
The first batch of students who sat the G.C.E (O/L) examination. 144 out of the 160 students in this first set passed the examination and the school secured the fifth place in the country in 1987 at this Examination.

The commencement of the Advanced Level classes in 1988 with the completion of ten years was another milestone.
[edit] MILO TROPHY: One-Day Cricket Encounter
[1] [2] [3] President's College played a One-day cricket encounter with Mahanama College, Colombo 03 for the Milo Trophy. There were 15 matches played between 1988-2006. Presidents college lead the series with 8 - 7 wins. The cricket series was sponsored by prestigious Nestle Lanka Ltd.

1st started with no facilities even to buy a ball and now we have just 4 balls. Rugby was established on 2006. College U.20 rugby team first participated in a tounament which was held at Galle. And then they formed a U.16 Rugby team. They won the Bowl Champs in the Division 2 rugby schools matches which was held at Havelock grounds, colombo 5.
