Premio Carlo d'Alessio

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Premio Carlo d'Alessio is a Group 3 flat horse race in Italy for four-year-old and above thoroughbreds. It is run over a distance of 2,400 metres (approximately 1½ miles) at Capannelle Racecourse in late May.

It was formerly known as the Premio Ellington, changing to its present name in 2000. This was in memory of Carlo d'Alessio, an Italian owner of racehorses, including two successive winners of the English 2,000 Guineas – Bolkonski (1975) and Wollow (1976).

From 1991 to 2005 the race held Group 2 status, and from 2001 to 2004 it was run over a distance of 2,800 metres (1¾ miles).
