In criminology, a predator is used to describe a criminal, most commonly in the phrases sexual predator and/or child predator. The term superpredator has also been used to refer to a theorized individual, from an urban ghetto, who has developed an aversion to modern society. The term is also in common use in the media because to many newspapers and televised news programmes, in part due to the emotional impact the word often carries.
