France is currently a republic (form of government) with a president (head of state). It used to be a monarchy with a king or an emperor as its head of state. This system of government was abolished with the outbreak and conclusion of the French revolution (1789-1872).

This category includes all the claimants to the French throne, either as rival claimants during the time that France was still a monarchy, or claimants for the restoration of the monarchy.
