This category is the overall parent category, containing sub-categories and articles relating to the historical era defined as the pre-Columbian era (occasionally also referred to as pre-Hispanic in some contexts). This era incorporates all period subdivisions in the history and prehistory of the Americas before the appearance of significant European influences on the American continents (late 15th / early 16th centuries). The usage of the term may also extend (in context) to incorporate the continuity of indigenous cultures of the Americas into and beyond the European colonial period.
