Prairie Central High School

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Prairie Central High School is the high school for the Prairie Central Consolidated School District in central Illinois. It is located in Fairbury, Illinois.

The current principal is Dan Schmitt.

[edit] History

Prior to the creation of the consolidated district in 1984, the building in which the current high school is housed was known as Fairbury-Cropsey Junior-Senior High School, with the "Fighting Tartars" as their mascot. The consolidation in 1984 brought together the students of Forrest-Strawn-Wing High School and Chatsworth High School as the new Prairie Central. The district further expanded in 2004 with the addition of the students from the former Chenoa High School.

Upon the change of the school's name, the mascot was also changed, from the Fighting Tartars to the Hawks. The colors were also changed, from a green and yellow gold scheme, to white, Columbia blue, and navy.

[edit] Competition

  • The original Fairbury-Cropsey High School was best known for its superb marching band; the Fighting Tartars regularly won state titles against much larger competition.
  • In 2003 the Prairie Central High School Hawks football team placed 2nd in the IHSA 4A football championship held at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
