Praia do Almoxarife is a rural parish with a great natural beauty, located between Lomba da Espalamanca and Lomba dos Frades, the Ribeira da Praia is in the middle and flows into the parish. The parish was founded by Joss van Hurtere in 1465 along with 15 Flemish people and explored the area around the island. The first people were settled in Lomba dos Frades (Crónicas da Província de São João Evangelista, Frei Agostinho de Montalverne). Later, Hurtere didn't like the area, he later relocated along with the settlers to Lomba da Espalamanca. The parish was sacked on September 12, 1597 by English corsairs, the parish was later rebuilt.cngtfaratyf
