Prahar

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In Hindustani music, the term prahar refers to the prescribed time at which a particular rāga is supposed to be performed, to maximize its aesthetic effect. A prahar can be a time of day (usually the day is divided into eight 3-hour segments), or it can be a season (for instance, all ragas titled Malhar are intended to be played during the monsoon rains).
