Practical Wireless

Practical Wireless is a British radio and electronics magazine, currently in print on a monthly basis. It is published by PW Publishing of Broadstone, Dorset, England and its editor is Rob Mannion.
The magazine was founded in 1932, originally as a supplement, by FJ Camm (brother of Sydney Camm, of Hawker aircraft fame), whilst at George Newnes Publishers. Launched as an independent, weekly title in that same year, it became a monthly publication in 1941 due to wartime paper shortages. Camm officially edited the magazine until his death in 1959. During his tenure, the publication was often affectionately referred to as 'Camm's comic'.
For many years, although FJ Camm was officially the editor it is rumoured that it was in fact edited by Clive Sinclair (later Sir Clive Sinclair), though he was never credited as such. In fact, this is most unlikely as Clive would have to have been editing the magazine as a sideline to his A-level studies as he was still at school.
The magazine covered principally wireless (radio) related articles but also carried many non wireless related electronic articles as well. In 1964, the non wireless articles were spun off into a sister magazine, Practical Electronics (now defunct). In the early 1980's, the magazine was dedicated entirely to amateur radio. Its current editor (2007) is Rob Mannion.
