I wrote to Senator McClintock to ask him for a copy of the speech, plus I told him about what I did in Georgia. He wrote back and said the following:

That's a great article on an extraordinary deed. I'll make sure El Nuevo Día or Primera Hora get this. Primera Hora has an occasional ongoing series called "Puertorriquennos en la Luna" about prominent Puerto Ricans around the world.
I'm travelling today and don't actually have direct access to my speech in which, indeed, I compared you to Puerto Rico's Official Historian, Dr. Luis González Vale, who is a retired General and one of our best-known historian, specializing in military history. I will get you a copy.
While Wikipedia got a bum rap with the John Seigenthaler incident, it is filling a knowledge void that in my times The World Book Encyclopedia never filled and I hear that you continuously look out to provide the best information possible on all things Puerto Rican.
After the Memorial Day ceremony, for the first time we had a concert-picnic on the lawn with the huge Mita Congregation Band, featuring pop PR and US music with some emphasis on Rafael Hernández' music (the historic 1965 Banco Popular TV special dedicated to him weeks before his death is now out on CD, courtesy of BPPR; you can get it at my sister's e-business, musicaboricua.com!). We're planning to do it again next year and I hope you can then make it so we can honor you properly and that, hopefully, there are fewer names to unveil then."

- On the José M. Berrocal Scholarship for Environmental Studies: The Ford Motor Company press only mentions Bill Ford. No mention of Ms. Casiano.[3] If you can source this, then I think it belongs in the article, with the focus that you descrbed on my talk page — specifically, that it is the largest source of scholarships for Puerto Ricans seeking graduate studies. Otherwise, I think that an article on José M. Berrocal, with mention of the establishment of the scholarship in his memory, is a good next step. — ERcheck (talk) 12:23, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Proposed guideline at Wikipedia:Overlistification
Wikipedia:Overlistification is a proposed guideline that intersects with my proposed guideline at Wikipedia:Proposed guideline for lists of people by ethnicity, religion, and other cultural categorizations. There are some good things in Wikipedia:Overlistification and some things that would need to be changed. In particular, the section "Irrelevant Intersections by Race, Gender, Beliefs, Sexuality, Ethnicity, and Religion Lists" appears similar to what I've proposed. Some tweaking of language would be needed, but the similarities are there.
Unfortunately, there is an appearance that Wikipedia:Overlistification is being created to bolster one side of the debate around the deletion of certain types of lists. I'm sure the same could be said for my proposed guideline. As people may know, the guidelines and policies which succeed at Wikipedia tend to be the ones which reach consensus from people on both sides of a debate. Perhaps we should merge info from Wikipedia:Proposed guideline for lists of people by ethnicity, religion, and other cultural categorizations with Wikipedia:Overlistification, bring in info from the current list guidelines, and see if we all can't reach a general consensus on this issue. Any thoughts on this? Is so, join the discussion at Wikipedia_talk:Overlistification#Problems_with_proposed_guidelines.2C_possible_ways_to_achieve_consensus. I would like to pay a small tribute in this edition to Tony "the Marine". Editing since May 24, 2004, he has been one of our project's most active editors and has become one of Wikipedia's most recognized writers. He has authored over 400 articles, including 4 Featured Articles, 1 Featured List, 10 Good Articles, and 28 DYKs. His name has appeared in newspapers and magazines and has been mentioned by politicians and artists. He has brought Puerto Rico's history and its people to the web. He has shown the world that Puerto Ricans have done much more than just be gangsters and drug dealers. He has shown the world that we have contributed to history and the world just as much as any other group of people. On September 29, 2007, Tony announced that we would not be writing for Wikipedia anymore. We, the members of this project, are sad that he will not be able to continue to spread the word of Hispanics' contributions here on the web, but I, for one, feel honored that he has entrusted us with the duty of continuing and improving his excellent work. Tony, rest assured that your contributions, your wisdom, and the help you provided to all of us when we were new users will be remembered for generations. I looked over some of them and I noticed that some were short and could be classified as "stubs", therefore I recommend that you place the following Template on your shorter articles: {{PuertoRico-bio-stub}}. That way the notablility and importance of the person is well established. You see, as it was it didn't really say anything, for example: Tistani, former candidate ...., so what? But, now we can establish the persons claim to fame.

My dear friends in Wikipedia,
I would like to share with you that today, November 28, 2007, I was honored by the Senate of Puerto Rico with the "Resolution of the Senate Number 3603" in appreciation for my work in Wikipedia regarding Puerto Rican military related articles. I was given the resolution on behalf of the Senate by the President of the Puerto Rican Senate, the honorable Kenneth McClintock. Hi PR4ver, I agree with you that mentoring is important. The reason I edited the line relates to two issues: The first is that mentioning only McClintock's father limits the mentoring aspect. Perhaps we can add other notable apprentices to add to Mc Clintocks name. Regarding the second part of the edit, in my research on Klumb I have never found any collaborative projects between HK and Toro Ferrer. I've researched the Klumb archives in AACUPR at the UPR and have yet to find anything done jointly between them. I'm looking for some project images to add to the Klumb article. Also needed is to rate the article. Two projects Im also watching and collaborating with are Antonin Nechodoma and Lindsay Daen. Congratuations on your work. Saludos. [edit] Outlying Areas Senate Presidents Caucus and Joseph M. Mendiola
Having read your message I can agree that the affiliation is relevant as Mendiola's name in press coverage had never gone beyond the Marianas if not for this Hawaii meeting. As to Mendiola even having a page, I think he does pass the test of "notability", but most GU and MP legislators don't have their own article as (1) their background and political history (even just what their current term is) are hard to research, (2) minor roles in politics (except for Speakers/Senate Presidents), and (3) the small sizes of the territories' population and the small number of Wikipedia editors.
I write local news roundup for a GU/MP Chinese monthly paper so I constantly monitor the news, but have yet to see anything mentioned in the GU/MP local media regarding the Caucus. After Googling, the only results are from HI/AZ (English) and PR (Spanish). The lack of coverage may very well be the result of the small number of journalists in GU and MP.
On the other hand, I wasn't able to find any result of "Outlying Areas Senate Presidents Caucus". Is it an official or a provisional name? HkCaGu (talk) 05:00, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

Ah! I'm not going crazy after all. I wondered, as I was going through the Succession of Bishops of The Episcopal Church (U.S.), which I've been doing to add Category:Bishops of the Episcopal Church in the United States of America, how I had missed Arthur C. I appreciate your support on the bishops/presiding bishops categories. I don't understand where these "rules" come from. Why have a subcategory if it's going to reduce the entries in the category? Mi buen amigo, I have been thinking that it is time to do a "clean sweep" of the "List of Puerto Ricans". As you know there are a lot of names of non-notables that do not even have reliable sources. I was thinking that since you are a trusted member who has worked on the list, that you, Raylast and I could tackle some of the sections and remove from the list the non-notables. Besides the military, which I always do, I could start with the educators section. I would very much like it if you joined us and picked the sections which you are most familiar with. - O.K., so far the Actors section is taken. It is simple, you don't have to be an expert. Just take a section, for example: Authors and the names that you do not recognize, do a google search on them. If you don't find a reliable source to the person's claim to fame, then remove it. - Oops, in regard to Acevedo. You are right, I will add his name back. In regard to A. Cecil Snyder, he is not Puerto Rican and was appointed to his position by the President. It would be similar to all the military governors in Puerto Rico appointed by the President. The question is this, did Snyder make Puerto Rico his homeland? - Snyder is back in. The important thing here is that the criteria of the list be maintained and that is that it includes people who were born in Puerto Rico, people who are of Puerto Rican ancestry, and many long-term residents and/or immigrants who've made Puerto Rico their home. Another editor has added the {{prod}} template to the article Miguelito el Heredero, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. Hi mi amigo, I have been looking around and I noticed that you have started a lot of articles such as Nelson Famadas, which is wonderful. Since some of them are "stubs", this is what I suggest: add {{PuertoRico-bio-stub}} and at least one verifiable source. You know how it is, somebody is going to take a look at an article like Miguelito el Heredero and nominate it for deletion (see above). I checked the "List of PR" and saw a Gloria Gonzalez that was added without a ref., then I checked the article and I saw that it didn't have any references either. That led me to remove the person's name from the list. Now get this, I did a google search on the subject, I mean I figured that such a "notable" person who has received so many "honors" would have multiple mentions, but nada.
During my years in Wikipedia, I have come across two cases where the claims to notability were proven to be false. These two people even went as far as to creating articles in websites such as IMdB, but were proven to be a hoax.
I'm not saying that this is the case with "Gloria Gonzalez", but I am tempted to put the article up for deletion for lack of verifiability. You are a trusted friend and I would like to hear your opinion on the matter. Tony the Marine (talk) 15:28, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Eddie Mellado - inventor of the 3-point shot
Here is something that is interesting. My son told me that Prof. Eddie Rio Mellado invented the 3-point shot that is common in the game of basketball. However, I couldn't find any reliable source to confirm this. Now, if this is true, that would mean that a "Boricua" invented something that revolutionized the game of basketball and Mellado deserves an article in Wikipedia. I do know that la Asociación de Jugadores de Baloncesto de Puerto Rico has a "Eddie Rios Mellado Award" which is annually presented to the player who makes the most 3-point shots. This I found out when I checked the R. de la C. 2461 de La Camara de Representantes de Puerto Rico: . R. de la C. 2462

Gracias. I wasn't expecting a recognition. K. McClintock invited my wife and me into his office in El Capitolio for a private meeting. There were a lot of Senators, including the President of the Camara - Aponte. When the Clintons arrived, we had a private session and took photos. McClintock presented me with a gift. I am a very humble person, so I felt kind of strange when in the ceremonies Fortuno's representative paid me tribute and then McClintock, plus to top it off they made me stand up to be recognized and everybody applauded, including the former President and his wife the Senator. My friend I just want to share a thought with you,
You know, it amazes me that throughout history, the courage and commitment of the Puerto Rican soldier has been questioned. Can you believe that Major General Luis R. Esteves, the "Father of the Puerto Rican National Guard," questioned the fighting capability of our "Jibaros" and when the 65th Infantry was sent to Korea, the American high command also questioned the bravery of our men. Little did they know that the brave men form our island would eventually earn 5 Medals of Honor, 5 Navy Crosses and 15 Distinguished Service Crosses. But, what strikes me the most is the lack of knowledge of our military history that those who criticize us have had and continue to have.
It seems to me that after the United States took control of our island, the heroic actions of our "Boricuas" as members of the Spanish Army and/or the Puerto Rican militia, were eliminated from our history books. Not only are our heroes of the "past" not mentioned in our educational history books, but there aren't any statues, monuments or paintings to honor them. That is why I enjoy writing about these heroes and telling the world about them. I want the world to know that our people were brave soldiers with "cojones" before the United States took over the island and they began to serve the Armed Forces of the United States.
That is why I have written the stories of men such as Juan de Amezquita and the brothers Jose and Francisco Diaz. I hope that you enjoy them. Tony the Marine (talk) 05:10, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
