The Poyle Pump at grid reference TQ034766 on the Bath Road between Poplar Close and Sherbourne Close in Poyle, Slough, United Kingdom. Inscriptions on or near the pump read: 'The Poyle Pump erected in 1827 by the Colnbrook Turnpike Trust. Restored in 1992. Contractor CDR Construction Ltd' [1] and 'This pump was erected by order of "Beau" Nash of Bath in 1754' [2] I think the 1827 date is more likely (possibly replacing an earlier one erected in 1754). It stands nearly 3 metres tall which suggests that it was intended to be used to refill the tanks of those new-fangled steam traction engines.
