Powerbooks is the pioneer specialty bookstore in the Philippines. The company was founded on August 16, 1996 by Mia Licauco, the granddaughter of Socorro Cancio-Ramos who is currently the General Manager of National Bookstore.
The first branch opened in Arnaiz Avenue, Makati City--a two-storey building that contained a coffee shop and offered chairs where customers can comfortably sit on while reading.
