Powelliphanta lignaria rotella, known as one of the amber snails, is a subspecies of large, carnivorous land snail, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusc in the family Rhytididae.

[edit] Distribution
This subspecies is endemic to the South Island of New Zealand. It is only found in the Seddonville area, and on the western slopes of the Glasgow Range.
[edit] Shell description
The shell has a dense dorsal pattern of dark reddish-brown spiral lines, as well as a few bold widely spaced dark brown axial streaks. There are only faint to obsolete spiral lines on the othwise plain yellowish-olive base.
The shell diameter is up to 42 mm, and height up to 28 mm.

Powelliphanta lignaria rotella is classified by the New Zealand Department of Conservation as being Nationally Endangered.
