[edit] Impossible citation?
The city has been referred to on countless occasions in MAD magazine, to the point where a citizen wrote a letter questioning them about their ongoing ridicule of the city. [citation needed] Does anybody know how one would cite a source for this? I have the issue where the letter in question is printed and at least 10 others where they ridicule Poughkeepsie, but scanning and uploading parts of them would be a balant copyright infringement, so how would one cite a source here?
- I would put a footnote mentioning the articles/issue numbers of a few of them (2-3). That should be enough.-Oreo Priest 14:23, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] untitled
What on earth does the sentence, "The City of Poughkeepsie in the Hudson Valley on the west side of the county," mean? It doesn't make sense.
That sentence was missing the word is. It should read "Poughkeepsie is in the Hudson Valley, on the west side of the county." Smartyshoe 14:45, 9 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] "If you keep this up, you're going to drive me to Poughkeepsie!"
Growing up in Albany, New York, teachers and adults would frequently say this, implying 'you're going to drive me to a mental hospital!' Is there a mental hospital in Poughkeepsie, or was there one? Thanks. LuMas 22:06, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
There was a mental hospital north of Poughkeepsie On Route 9, It hasn't been in use for many years.
- The Psychiatric hospital that was on Route 9, near the border of Hyde Park and Poughkeepsie, has been shut down for many years. The Pyschiatric center is now located by DCC, on a secluded hill. WiiAlbanyGirl 19:06, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] IPA / Pronounciation
An edit on December 18, 2006 changed the pronounciation of the city. I believe the new pronounciation is incorrect. I'd fix it, but my combined lack of familiarity with the city and IPA defers to someone more qualified. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 216.254.17.28 (talk) 05:41, 28 February 2007 (UTC).
- Good catch. I changed it back; it was indeed correct before. bikeable (talk) 17:24, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Weasel/Spam Discussion
I would like to make an argument for the rewriting of the majority of the trivia section. First, it seems very long and unsourced. Secondly, much of it is grammatically incorrect. Third, this statement promotes false information, and seems to be promoting the movie more than stating a fact: The Poughkeepsie Tapes is the name of a 2007 horror film chronicling a serial killer, “The Water Street Butcher”, who has made macabre videos of his victims. The Poughkeepsie Tapes is the second feature film from The Brothers Dowdle.. The character of the Water Street Butcher is fiticious, as no such killer existed that made tapes of his victims. While many argue that it was based on Kendall Francois, it won't be certain until the movie is released. This is more spam than anything. I would edit it myself, as I have the capabilities, but finals time is upon me and I don't have the time right now to sit down and overhaul that section. Any suggestions? That's true, but is putting a "OMG WEASEL WORD" stamp on the main article necessary? I'm going to move it to the trivia section. I don't think the other sections of the article have "weasel words." I agree with you that the trivia section needs serious cleanup. 153.106.4.94 01:22, 11 May 2007 (UTC) (born & raised in Poughkeepsie)
[edit] Landmarks
Someone more familiar with the city than me should delete at least one of the landmarks from the infobox; they make it much too wide. -Oreo Priest 14:24, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
