Ant worker morphology diagram

Diagram showing the main morphology of a worker ant of the species Pachycondyla verenae. Ant bodies are segmented into four sections, the head, the alitrunk or thorax, the petiole, and the gaster or metasoma. Ants are one of the most successful groups of insects. They are of particular interest because they are a social insect and form highly organized colonies or nests which sometimes consist of millions of individuals. Ants are found on every continent except Antarctica.
