Lights along the fire line memorialize the Rotterdam Blitz, 14 May 2007. On this day in 1940, the Luftwaffe bombarded the city of Rotterdam as part of the German invasion of the Netherlands. About 2.6 km² (1 sq mi) of the city was levelled and as a result, the Netherlands surrendered to Germany. Photo credit: Y. S.
