Confederate dead behind the stone wall of Marye's Heights, Fredericksburg, Virginia, killed during the Battle of Chancellorsville, May 1863. The battle pitted the Union Army of the Potomac against a force half its size, the Army of Northern Virginia. Despite the odds, Robert E. Lee's tactics ensured a Union defeat. Photo credit: Andrew J.
