Pothundi Dam is an irrigation dam near a small village in Palakkad district of Kerala state, India.
"Pothundi dam "is a wonder for the technology, which is built without using Cement/concret at all. Its an old dam which is built in late 1800 AD. Usually for earthdam the core is built with concrete and the structure with earth or boulders. Usually the earth dam is built with core in concrete and the massive body to counter act water pressure in earth and boulders. Here for the construction of this dam boulders and earth is used as usual but the cementing material is a mixture of jaggery and quick lime, in a peculiar combination. The strength offered by this mortar is a real wonder for the present technology
The dam is about 8 km from Nemmara and 42 km from Palakkad. Nelliampathi is 17 km from here and is known for its Nemmara Vallengi Vela.
