Pothatturpettai is a town in Thiruvallur district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

As of 2001 India census[1], Pothatturpettai had a population of 18,698. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Pothatturpettai has an average literacy rate of 58%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 70%, and female literacy is 45%. In Pothatturpettai, 16% of the population is under 6 years of age.
