"Potential New Boyfriend" was a 1983 song written by Steve Kipner and John Lewis Parker, which provided a top-twenty hit for Dolly Parton on the U.S. country singles chart. The song was included on Parton's 1983 album Burlap & Satin, and released as a single in May 1983. The song was also popular in discos and dance clubs, and in addition to the standard 45 RPM single, an extended play dance remix single was released. The single was accompanied by one of Parton's first music videos.
The record is notable in being Dolly Parton's first song that was more successful on a chart other than country music, peaking at #13 on Billboard magazine's Dance Chart.
