Potato Bag gang

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Potato Bag gang was a gang of con artists from Odessa operating in New York's Soviet emigre community in Brighton Beach in the mid-1970's. Posing as merchant sailors, they would attempt to sell victims bags full of antique gold rubles for thousands of dollars each. In reality, only the sample coin was authentic, and the bags were actually full of potatoes.
