[edit] Image:Ashraful-5695.jpg

Picture taken from this cricketer's profile at http://content-ind.cricinfo.com/columns/content/player/55988.html He claims to have taken it himself but has previously had an image of this cricketer deleted because he falsly claimed this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Crickettragic (talkcontribs) 00:13, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

  • Crickettragic is correct - the image mentioned was deleted via IfD, see here for the process. I emailed Cricinfo with regards to what the status of the image was in mid July, but never got a response. There's no mention of a specific copyright on the page, but I'm not aware of an instance of Cricinfo not using a copyrighted image (usually AFP, Getty Images or Cricinfo Ltd's own). The other images from the same photoset of fellow Bangladeshi cricketers don't mention a source either. But, to be honest, the chance of the license actually being correct is beyond minuscule. Picture appears to be either a promotional studio image of a television series, or a screenshot from a television series, and certainly not a free use image. Ejfetters 08:05, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.jpg

Uploader claims to be the creator of the image, with no explanation as to how they were able to take a photograph of al-Zarqawi. I left a message asking for an explanation, but none was forthcoming. They probably took it off of another source and claim that their having downloaded it makes them the creator. We need evidence that the uploader did in fact take this image, or it should be deleted. We are using this image at the Time 100 article. It looks very much to me like if was a photograph of a TV monitor when al-Zarqawi was on TV. Would that count as a self-created image? Slackergeneration 14:46, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
No, nor any more than if it were a screen capture. It can be used in an article about the program it came from, not an article about the person or any other article which uses the person's name. Corvus cornix 15:53, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
