[edit] Image:StephenSondheim.jpg

No evidence of CC license at given source (I can't even find this image there) Videmus Omnia Talk 00:52, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

I think they meant "org", not "com". I found the photo at: http://www.youngplaywrights.org/from%20Steve.htm I put this url in the source info. -- Ssilvers 21:23, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for fixing the source - looks like a copyvio though, the page has a copyright notice and no CC license statement. Videmus Omnia Talk 00:36, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

Is there no free image available of Sondheim? -- Ssilvers 13:41, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:UchihaMadara.jpg

Image is from the Naruto manga, and ergo, is an non-free image. As consensus is currently decided against including this image in the article where this image would be appropriate (Land of Fire), there is no reason for this image to be present. Furthermore, this image is redundant with Image:Madara Uchiha.jpg, which this user also uploaded without a source, license, or fair use rationale. [edit] Image:Moses Taylor.jpg

This image appears to be an edited version of the image shown at url http://franklin-sterlinghill.com/dunn/ch07/cultural.stm. On that site, the image caption says "This engraving is one of the Franklin Bank Note Company, was used on railroad securities, was published by Hodas (1976), and is reprinted here courtesy of the New York University Press." That implies that the copyright to the image is held by the New York University Press and the image is not in the public domain. JimIrwin 12:27, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:NRSV_Bibles.gif

Regardless whether the book cover is fair use, this professional promo photo is a derivative work, and it is covered by copyright as it is a 3D display.  But|seriously|folks  16:18, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

The image is copyrighted to Hendrickson Publishers, and no challenge to it is implied by posting it here on Wikipedia. It is the same as posting an image of Oxford's 50th Anniversary RSV Bible on the page for the RSV. --JoBrLa 16:23, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

The license doesn't even claim it's free. I'm confused by this listing. Seems to be fairly irreplaceable as a book cover. The Evil Spartan 18:30, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
If it were 2D, I would agree with you, ES. -- But|seriously|folks  06:43, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
It's not a book cover, it's a display of books - a derivative work. That's not covered by our Fair Use criteria; this wouldn't be "fair use", it's be "ripping off someone else's work", which isn't quite the same thing. ➔ This is REDVEЯS 18:48, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Ayurveda oil.jpg

Person adding image claimed CC 2.5 license, then CC 1.0, then fair use. No support for any of these. Mdbrownmsw 18:05, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Bangor Grammar.jpg

Clearly, the uploader has no right to release this image into the public domain; and the image itself is very unlikely to be a public domain image — ➔ This is REDVEЯS 18:38, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Processing-of-sound.svg

Obvious copy of the referenced copyright source, even though it was converted to svg. Dicklyon 20:52, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

The Journal that this image is from is published under a Creative Commons Attribution License. see [1] or the original JPG image Image:Processing of sound.jpg —Preceding unsigned comment added by Iain (talkcontribs) 00:46, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks; and sorry. In that case, I withdraw the IfD request (how do I make that official?). Does the attribution need to appear in the article where the image is used, or is having it on the linked image page generally regarded as sufficient? Dicklyon 05:28, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

Tagged as PD-old-US but clearly the book was published way later than 1923. Pascal.Tesson 21:31, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

  • Why do you think the book was published after 1923? – Quadell (talk) (random) 00:58, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
I deleted the image because it is a commons duplicate of Image:Armenia (Sevres).jpg. That said, I agree with the nom. It is highly unlikely that this map was printed using color printing techniques from 84 years ago.-Andrew c [talk] 14:35, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Published in 1924; doubtful the NYT doesn't renew their license every year. Thus none of the other copyright statuses apply, unless we maintain the author died earlier than 1937, which can hardly be proved without a source. The Evil Spartan 23:32, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
