sourced to a copyrighted website. poster asserted he had permission when adding to the page, but this needs to be explicit and forwarded to OTRS Calliopejen1 01:43, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
Xystren speaking here... Ok, not being a Wikipedia expert or the likes, what does that mean, and what exactly do I have to do to get this "unfree image" status off this image? Also, what is OTRS?!?!?!??!?!

Text on sign is protected by copyright. Design of sign is protected by copyright. But|seriously|folks 04:20, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- Is a sign like this and its text really protected by copyright? It doesn't seem this can be considered creative in any sense, and it is in a permanent public place. IvoShandor 04:40, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- I think the photo of this sign generates a new copyright but I am no expert, just based on our image policy. This sign is a three dimensional object, and in a public setting, which might allow freedom of panorama to apply, possibly, I mean it doesn't take much to call something creative (apparently) and the trees in the background would probably be enough, imo. I'm not sure what country you are located in, or what particular copyright section code you are attempting to interpret, however these markers are placed by USA federal, state and locally sponsored and taxpayer funded organizations. As these are public institutions, the work is public domain. Many available books and publications that contain photos of these markers, have been published, and the publication itself is copyrighted. An example of this would be a source of reference for much of the Blackhawk war related research “Along the Blackhawk trail” by William F Stark c 1984 Library of congress catalog number 84-050598. This Book contains many photos of relevant historical markers. Based on this feeble interpretation the following images, and wiki pages would fall into this category Image:Route66 sign.jpg, Image:BeverlyHillsCityLimits.jpg or possibly this entire wiki page on historical markers themselves http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historical_marker next time do some research on the site your trying to police dude But|seriusly|folks ! get real! [edit] Image:Viktor Yanukovych in Brussels.jpg
Tagged as {{attribution}}, however the copyright notice at its source, www.ya2008.com.ua, says All rights reserved. All materials on this site belong to Viktor Yanukovych’s Press Centre. © 2004-2007 In case any of these site materials are used, reference to ya2008.com.ua is obligatory, which does not always mean that this image can be freely used by anyone for any purpose, including modification, as required by our policy. - Keep. Please read this phrase: "In case any of these site materials are used, reference to ya2008.com.ua is obligatory," which states that if you use any of these materials on the site, then you must link [attribute] to ya2008.com.ua. —dima/talk/ 20:24, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- Keep. The material is clearly intended for public consumption. The rights remain reserved, but the Yanukovych's Press Centre wants the dissemination of their guy, so they allow for it to be used if there is a link back to their site. Use does mean for any purpose IF the reference to the Press Centre site is present. Here it is, and wikipedia policy is met. Keep.--Riurik(discuss) 17:24, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
- Keep. Is it just me, or have the people who run images use rationale delete, delete, delete. We should be expanding our image collection not reducing it. Here is a clear case of no violation yet there are still those that by the looks of it, suffer from a deletion fetish. Now that is worrying, for the quality of our encyclopedia and its reputation. --Kuban Cossack 09:39, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

Unable to verify that this is available under cc-by-sa-2.5. The source URL (at least in my browser) merely prompts whether to download the image. The URL includes the text "boramanews"; not sure if this refers to boramanews.com, but that website bears a copyright notice and no mention of cc-by-sa-2.5 nor any other terms of free use.
