[edit] Meas Sophea image

The uploader seems to claim to be Meas Sophea, a general in the Cambodian Armed Forces. (That is, the user made his userpage and talkpage into redirects to the article page and talk page.) He is non-communicative, and I wonder if he speaks English. I don't know whether he is this person, or just an admirer. Anyway, he claims {{PD-self}} on these images, even though some (all?) are the intellectual property of the Cambodian government. How should we procede? – Quadell (talk) (random) 13:51, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Koshindogatesymbol.jpg

Cropped from http://www.planetkyoto.com/nils/archives/images/kukurizaru_emblem.html B (talk) 15:53, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

This image is part of a booklet of information about a Koshindo shrine. It states: "Please feel free to copy and disseminate the information contained in this booklet, partially or totally, for educational and other non-profit purposes". So I did. Nevertheless, preventively, I have deleted this image from the pages where it was placed. Please feel free to delete, I will replace it later on with some other image that I can be sure it has no intellectual property claims. Thank you for the alert. Wikipedia does not accept images that have licenses that restrict use to non-profit, educational, or "Wikipedia-only" use. Such restrictions are incompatible with the GFDL license. --B (talk) 20:51, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
I have traced the original copyright holder (Nils Ferry - planetkyoto.com) and he informs that the image is free and released into public domain. It is the same copyright holder of other images used in Wikipedia (i.e. article "Mimizuka")I have updated the copyright tags. The discussion tag can be removed. Thank you for your assistance in this matter. JennyLen☤ 08:40, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
Please forward this permission and the permission for the other two to permissions-en@wikimedia.org. --B (talk) 15:34, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
The permissions were forwarded to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, the image is now uploaded at commons [1] and it has been deleted at its first uploaded position as it can be used directly from commons now. All permissions appear at the commons address provided above. Once again, thank you for your help and all the best in this season. JennyLen☤ 09:24, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Kyotokoshindo.jpg

Image partially derived from http://www.geocities.com/nobukaze23/weird9.htm (direct image url [2] but remember that geocities doesn't allow direct image linking, so you may need to copy/paste it into a new browser). I blew both images up in PSP and the part of this image with the guy with his hands over his heads and the surrounding trinkets is an exact binary duplicate of the source image - unquestionably a copyvio. This image was provided to me by a friend living in Kyoto. I was informed that I was free to use it at Wikipedia. Nevertheless, preventively, I have deleted this image from the pages where it was placed. [edit] Image:Kushindosymbol.jpg

This is just a photoshop of Image:Koshindogatesymbol.jpg. Go to the ORIGINAL version of this image (not the retouched one), blow it up, along with the other image in paint shop pro. This one has a couple of extra jpeg artifacts, but if you look around the edges, you can see that they have the identical pixels. It's easiest to see in the lower right corner where the color transition is greatest. B (talk) 16:21, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

This image was isolated from an image that is part of a booklet of information about a Koshindo shrine. As above, Wikipedia does not accept images that have licenses that restrict use to non-profit, educational, or "Wikipedia-only" use. Such restrictions are incompatible with the GFDL license. But even more than that, if you are not the sole author/contributor of anything you create or upload on Wikipedia (or anywhere else), you need to attribute where it came from - and that's something that is independent of license requirements - that's rather fundamental - you don't take someone else's work and call it your own. --B (talk) 20:55, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Karagounis.jpg

Obviously a news media photo. There are two files in the history here - one of them is obviously a bio photo and this one is a news media photo. I can't find the site that they came from, but the claim that they are user-authored photos, given the user's upload log, seems unlikely. B (talk) 21:43, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

This user reverts PUI and IFD tags and in reverting this tag, he said that it is his. But the photo is from an April 16, 2007 game that took place in Portugal. The user is from Greece and he edited Wikipedia that day. The photo was uploaded 2 months after the fact and is web resolution. Color me skeptical. --B (talk) 00:01, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

Appears to be a news media photo. http://sportmagister.com/reportaje.asp?id_rep=2499 (a Spanish interview with the subject) uses this image B (talk) 21:56, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:SarahPalin.jpg

The source (which is only a base URL and does not link to the image) is the State of Alaska, but the license tag states it is a U.S. Congressional photo. Videmus Omnia Talk 16:28, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

Looks like the photo is from here - I don't think the State of Alaska releases its work into the public domain, unless there's been some new law of which I'm unaware. Videmus Omnia Talk 15:00, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

The summary and licenses have since been updated and it is believed by me that the changes are adequate enough to be able to keep the photo on Wikipedia.
NewYork1956 (talk) 15:04, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

I tagged the photo as replaceable fair use per WP:NFCC#1. Videmus Omnia Talk 15:05, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
