[edit] Image:St maurice statue.jpg

Source of image appears in fact to be [1], which actually contains no grant of license. (Source given in image description is the homepage for the entire site, not the direct source.) TCC (talk) (contribs) 02:24, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Delete. It can be easily replaced with a certainly free image.

  • The earliest use of this photo that I can find anywhere seems to be [2], which linked to the photo as early as March 9, 2000, though archive.org did not archive the image itself until 2006. I doubt either site is the origin of the photo. --- RockMFR 23:01, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
  • Commons has other images of the same statue, but they do not look like this image. So I agree the source indicated is probably the right one. If that's the case, then it does seem at best dubious. John Carter 23:17, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:TLC2.jpg

I'm 99% sure this is a screenshot of one of the Power Rangers shows/movies, but I don't know for sure. --- RockMFR 02:52, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Delete. size/quality looks obviously to be a screenshot. Calliopejen1 21:50, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
ALso, the Christopher Khayman Lee page said it was from Power Rangers in Space. Calliopejen1 21:52, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Race Car Memorial.jpg

User lists this and image and a series of others as images uploaded (not taken by him); has some other obvious copyvio images, but I don't want to sift though about 1500 images on Flickr as well as the internet at large to find the source for these. Other images: Image:Columns Memorial.jpg, Image:Couple in Bed Memorial.jpg, Image:Dying Man Memorial.jpg, Image:Letter A Memorial.jpg, Image:Flying Airplane Memorial.jpg, Image:Granite Memorial Hope Cemetery.jpg, Image:Soccer Ball Memorial.jpg, Image:Cube Memorial.jpg. Peta 04:13, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

  • This appears to be the source for Image:Letter A Memorial.jpg and it is certainly not licensed under the GFDL. Recommend deleting all as copyright violations. IvoShandor 04:36, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
    • Yeah, I was supposed to get around to sourcing all of those at some point, but they all came from Flickr. Now, I was very careful to only pick the ones that said at the bottom in little print with a picture of a green camera with a yellow circle on it, "This photo is public." Now, I don't see why I can't use the picture if it says public. Also, I was intending to use a picture which said "Some rights reserved", but I saved it as a .gif instead of a .jpg, so that fell through and I'm lazy: however, I checked the terms of use and it said something about Attribution 2.1 or 2.0 or something like that, where you are required to give credit to the user, which is only fair and makes perfect sense. Instead, I think that all of these images which you mentioned are public, so I assume that this means that I can use them wherever I want, since the world "public", to me at least, means that it is in the public domain and not subject to copyright. I have already had a discussion with several users, including User:IvoShandor, interestingly. It goes as follows:
The images at Hope Cemetery; did you take them and release them under {{GFDL-no-disclaimers}}? — pd_THOR | =/\= | 16:50, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
No, I didn't take them, so I can't release them. I got them from Flickr, and they all said public, so I'm putting them to use. I hope I used the right tag. If not, could you please advise me as to which one I should use? Thanks, Ben 00:55, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
Wel, none of them seem to have a source, so the license can't be checked on them. If you can provide the source (just the url to the picture would be fine) that would make the pictures great -- even accessable to other wikiprojects because that would make them eligible to move to Wikimedia Commons. — pd_THOR | =/\= | 04:45, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

::::I didn't think it was because the article was well done otherwise. That place looks very very cool. Thanks for your work and if I come across any photos I will add them as well. : ) Thanks for understanding. IvoShandor 05:35, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

I apologize for not sourcing them, but they all come from Flickr: I will go get those sources now. However, they state that they are public, so I don't see why that is a copyright violation. Ben 12:36, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Umm, I didn't put that comment above there, so I struck it out. Those pics don't appear to be free use, see my link above. IvoShandor 17:01, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, they're "© All right reserved." Ben, on Flickr, "this image is public" has nothing to do with the copyright status. It just means it's for viewing by anybody. Lupo 11:46, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

There is no evidence that the uploader can release the image under GFDL. bluemask (talk) 04:40, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Indepen2.jpg

As a recent work of the Philippine Government, this is not PD. bluemask (talk) 10:38, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:MSSR_Rifle.jpg

As a recent work of the Philippine Goverment (navy.mi.ph), this may not be in public domain. bluemask (talk) 10:44, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

If you want, I can change license to fair use if you don't want the original one since it's on the Navy website for a while and not recent. Ominae 20:56, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
If you can claim fair use, please go ahead. The Philippine government does not allow commercial use of their works. Also note that copyright for photos in the Philippines expires 50 years after publication. --bluemask (talk) 22:06, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Right. Taken care of. Just not sure on the tag. Ominae 22:54, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Tagged as disputed fair use. Calliopejen1 22:08, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

the permission received doesn't give permission for commercial use or derivative works Calliopejen1 19:40, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

  • When I wrote an email asking for permission, I have stated that the photo will be used only on Wikipedia to accompany the article also on Wikipedia. For that particular purpose the permission was granted, as stated in the Summary section of the information on the photo. I don't understand, why it will be deleted, if permission was granted to be used on Wikipedia. I did not ask for permission to use it anywhere else, as I did not intended to use it anywhere else, but on Wikipedia, along the article. Svetlana Miljkovic 01:04, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
    • Hi Svetlana, all images used on Wikipedia must be available under a free license for use anywhere (including commercial use) and for modification. The license options available are at WP:ICT#For image creators. Can you send another email asking explicit permission for use under one of these licenses, then forward any permission you receive to permissions@wikimedia.org? Otherwise this image has to be deleted. Calliopejen1 22:01, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

not all DOE images are free, because some labs operate under contract. This doesn't specify where exactly in the DOE it comes from. Calliopejen1 21:27, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
