- This is a nobrainer. The source clearly links to the image at the National Park Service with a description that further clearly confirms its origins with the National Park Service. Where's the doubt?--Esprit15d 03:19, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
- I guess the logic goes, if it's on a government server, then it must be the property of the USG? There is no end to the contradictions I could throw you for that one. But in this case the page says, "The A.T. is managed cooperatively by the National Park Service, the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC), volunteers from 30 local A.T. Clubs, the USDA Forest Service, and other public land-managing agencies. " indicating that the logo is probably owned by one of those groups, and I don't see a reason to assume it's the USG. Finally, the mark in the lower right wouldn't appear if it were property of the USG, would it? I can't read it, but don't you think it might be a trade mark or some other mark? I can think of no USG owned insignia that has such a mark on it. Pdbailey 22:49, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

- To the best of my knowledge, the USG can not own a trademark. Does anybody know for sure? i.e. the seal of the president of the united states is not trademarked, but it can not be used for profit. Pdbailey 01:19, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
- The US government may NOT trademark one of its own logos, though there are copyrights, United States flags, symbols, and seals, as well as state flags, symbols, and seals, are always free images. FinalWish 20:42, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

- To me, it does look like a TM at 200-400% zoom, but like just a blur when I go in further. In any case, I know of no mark the USG would put on a piece. Pdbailey 16:30, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
