[edit] Regarding 68.89.174.83
He's one of 49 socks of Mmbabies that we are dealing with. Mmbabies has been community-banned by us, but he continues his tirades, and we're now starting to take additional action against him. Have a look at Mmbabies' sockpuppet list -- if you encounter any vandalism similar to his, especially involving Houston TV stations. Hope this helps. -- azumanga 03:10, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
- Amazing. Many of the Houston television station articles are part of Wikiproject Houston and are on my watchlist, so I will keep an eye on them. Let me know if I can help in any way. Thanks, Postoak 03:19, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
Feel free, with this vandal or any other, to skip directly to {{uw-v4im}} whenever you see fit. Egregious vandals shouldn't waste your time. One immediate and final warning, and then one WP:AIV report, is all you really need to do. =) Thanks for being on watch! — coelacan — 03:48, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the advice and kind words! Postoak 05:29, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Project Houston page
Hey, I really like the new format. It's a pleasant environment and very easy to read. Nice job. --Evb-wiki 17:37, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks. I adapted it from another project page, feel free improve it. We need to get more involvement with the partcipants. I was hoping the "adopt-an-article and get it to GA" request would work. We have so many great editors in the project. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks, Postoak 18:32, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject Houston
Operation Stub Attack! - see WikiProject Houston, for report and mission details, Postoak 19:54, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the comment you left. Also while I am here I thought I would point out some things about WP:Hou. We have two stacks of Houston stubs, one that runs off the stub tag at the bottom of a page( Under the Houston Categories section), and the one in the table that uses the Talk page project tag. They don't all add up. Some are on one, but not on the other and Vice versa. Last night I knocked a couple more off the table (Lyondell and something else, I forget), but going through the other list being they are not properly tagged I've added the Project tag to them, so are stub articles are going back up. Just letting you know when you go look and see the stub numbers go up and wonder whats going on.
- OK, thanks. It appears that when an a stub article gets created, one or the other is left off. Do you think we should add "proper stub article ceation" on the project policy page? The thing is non-project participants would be unaware of this.
Also USS Houston is listed as stub, but its actually a disambiguation page, being there are multiple USS Houstons. I don't know if thats intentional or what, so I have left it be. 3 of the 4 Houstons are started, and they are all start quality at least it appears. So we can do 1 of 3 things I see: Leave it be, remove the tag because is actually a disambiguation page, or change it to start being 3 of 4 of them are that quality.
-
- I reclassed it to "Dab". I assigned the classes all at one time and I'm sure many are wrong! Please check the bottom of the "Quality scale" at Wikipedia:WikiProject Houston/Assessment for the additional classes. Another class is "Image" for images.
Another option falls in with what some other projects do, they have List as a quality (i think). Add that and change it to that. Other lists like lists of malls, schools, and things like that really fit better there than in the quality pages. Or we expand them to be more full lists with tables like we do on the state highway wikiproject see:List of highways in Liberty County, Texas, and leave them graded by quality like articles. I don't see List of school districts in Houston being expanded much, and I don't know how we would expand some others, so the List importance quality seems like a better idea to me.
-
- Agreed, I would reclass as "List".
But I'm just throwing some ideas at you, and now that I've got this typed I wonder if I should have put it on the talk page instead. Oh well, If you've got any questions about my ideas or a response, let me know. My AIM name is the same as my Wikiname, so if you want to contact me that way feel free. I may not be at the computer though, I leave AIM on and step away often. Feedloadr 17:35, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
-
- Thank you, I appreciate your help and concern. If there is anything you feel we need to do to improve the assessment process, please let me know here or add it to the project talk page. Thanks! Postoak 18:31, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Proper stub article creation idea
I think its a moot point, for the reason you gave. Most stubs I would think come from outside the project, and they aren't going to search and find the guidelines. Good idea, I feel it would have little to no effect.
- I agree, not much use to do this. Postoak 05:42, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
And the assessment page was useful, didn't what "Dab" meant any time I had seen it during my time here. Also useful in seeing what class things had been changed to. I was wondering how you kept up with the amount of stubs being killed off, now I have my answer. Being I am adding stubs, am I going into the negitive? Ha, kidding. Feedloadr 04:49, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, it looks like we're picking up a few stubs! :) Anyway, the end result is that the stubs are being cleaned up, thanks to you and Evb-wiki. Postoak 05:42, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] cleanup activities
Hiya! Just wondering why you're moving Category markup to be before stub tags e.g. [2] [3]? Wikipedia:Categorization#Wikipedia:Categorization suggests that categories should be "at the bottom, but before interlanguage links". General principle being, I think, that any markup which visibly affects the article (e.g. stub tags) should be before markup which doesn't (categories, interwiki links). --Stormie 04:04, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
- Hello, Stormie, Yes, you are correct as long as the article doesn't contain a stub template. Stub templates (or "stub tags") contain both a visual component and a category. The stub template should be placed after the category tags so that the the non-stub categories will display before the stub categories on the article's category line. Please see Wikipedia:Stub#Categorizing stubs. -- Postoak 06:56, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
- Zing! Good point, totally didn't think of that. Cheers! :-) --Stormie 06:58, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

You are in an area that I know little about. Besides being a fairly new admin, I know nothing about porn (and hope to keep it that way. ;^) I didn't even click on the link - the URL was enough to stop me.
I'm not sure where you got my name, but I suggest you check with a different admin, or post to something like WP:AN. Sorry I couldn't help you more, but feel free to ask me if you need help with a different topic. -- wrp103 (Bill Pringle) (Talk) 13:52, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Architecture of Houston
Hey. For what it's worth, I still think it's a pretty good article. There are lots of bad ones out there. Most of the paragraphs without refs. were lifted from other Wiki-articles, many of them stubs and themselves lacking support. The info looks pretty solid, so sources should be out there somewhere. When I get a block or two of time . . . . See ya. --Evb-wiki 01:06, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- I'll add a few more refs to the last couple paragraphs or so now. I'll have the damn thing reviewed again. :) Postoak 01:10, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Your GA nomination of Architecture of Houston
The article Architecture of Houston you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold. It hasn't failed because it's basically a good article, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within seven days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:Architecture of Houston for things needed to be addressed. • The Giant Puffin • 20:56, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

- I added the additional socks to the case. It is quite obvious that they are the same person. Thanks for information. Postoak 00:28, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
Hi, I have added quite a lot of information to this case. This user is very well known to me, he has been vandalising my talk page off and on for about six months. It is from an IP in St Catherines in Ontario, it is certainly User:Eoganan, User:Pan-ethnic and User:Not eoganan and possibly User:Epf. This user also often edits from a dynamic IP address without logging in, so their Ip changes a great deal. This user studies at the University of Toronto. I have an extensive, but not complete amount of evidence at User:Wobble/sandbox/2 if you want to trawl through it. All the best, I think the sooner this user is dealt with the better, if this is possible. Alun 06:00, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
- Amazing, this person has quite a history. I hope something can be done to resolve the problem. Thanks, Postoak 07:21, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Advertising on sites that wikipedia link to
Hi! I'm not sure you interpret the wikipedia policy on links correctly, but I didn't want to make a big issue about it. [WP:EL#Links_normally_to_be_avoided] says
5. Links to sites with objectionable amounts of advertising.
It doesn't say links to sites with any advertising. My dubbo site is not for profit, it is a service to others, the google advertising just manages to pay for the hosting which is $8 per month. I'm wondering that if my site's advertising is objectionable, then what constitutes advertising that is not objectionable? Even your own Houston page has a link to Yahoo Maps which has advertising banners. (When I looked, Hertz rent-a-car)
I think the point is that if you are using the wikipedia site to bring traffic to your site, that is a problem. ANd hten if you are using your site primarily for advertising, that is a problem. In the end we receive 3% of traffic from the wikipedia link, and as number 4 in a google search on dubbo, we recieve 70% of traffic direct from google, so we don't need the wikipedia link to promote the Dubbo site. It's there as a service. I think it provides unique and helpful information. I receive lots of feedback from people visiting Dubbo.
Have a look at my site, especially the section on the local dubbo markets, http://dubbo.org/category/farmers-markets/ which took quite a bit of work, and recreation and parks, http://dubbo.org/category/recreation-and-parks/ and if you can honestly say that you think it's better not linked to, let me know.
Our site is well known locally, I've been interviewed in the local paper over it and on radio, and it's been positive. Should I get a little poll going to let wikipedia users decide whether the link is good, or is this overkill?
There is a guy in Dubbo who does not like my site, he thinks it's bad for tourism, and every week he logs on to wikipedia from a different IP and removes my links, hence the links keep going up and down. It's refreshing to have someone who is not him pull it off, so this is the first time I have taken it seriously and I will leave it off if you can convince me it's best. Wayne Connor 01:43, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
- Wayne, please see WP:EL#Advertising and conflicts of interest. If I understand correctly, you own this website. I believe you are promoting your site on Wikipedia when you place a link to it on the Dubbo article. That's the problem. Perhaps you should have a poll if you think that will help. Thanks, Postoak 03:22, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Migraine
Hi you edited the article for the Migraine disease and when you did so [4] you changed disease to disorder although Migraine is considered a disease, can you explain why you did that?--Sugarcubez 18:28, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
- Please see the talk page for your explanation. Postoak 18:34, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

- No you please see the talk, and before making such edits you should use the talk.--Sugarcubez 18:55, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
- It is quite obvious that I did use the talk section. I will respond there. Postoak 19:03, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
- No you please see the talk, and before making such edits you should use the talk.--Sugarcubez 18:55, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
Actually it is far from obvious because you would not have tried to change something that makes no sense and that has been known for years and when I revert you back to the original you call it vandalism. You really must read up on disorders, Migraines and vandalism. And stop trying to change something in an article to fit your belief in is considered bad faith and could be considered vandalism.
Vandalism definition:
Vandalism is any addition, removal, or change of content made in a deliberate attempt to compromise the integrity of Wikipedia.
It quite seems your edit was in fact deliberate, and compromises the integrity of Wikipedia when you go into articles and change valid factual information. So please stop, if you want to doing experimenting and testing, you the sandbox--Sugarcubez 05:05, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
- You have reverted Mark Wiseman and myself over this issue. I've discussed this thoroughly and completely at the talk page. I've provided sources for the changes I've made, and yet you reverted. I requested an opinion from three other editors over this matter (and apparently reached consensus), yet you still reverted. You even claim that my sources are invalid? I will request a third opinion. Postoak 06:00, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
